On February 4, the Palmetto Art Center will proudly host a symposium featuring the life's work of acclaimed local photographer Gene Page IV. Page, a sixth generation Floridian and Manatee County native, will speak about his passion for underwater photography, as well as his experiences on set, photographing Hollywood superstars like Charlize Theron, John Travolta, Colin Farrell, Drew Barrymore and, most recently Jack Black.

While the Republicans were debating in Tampa, the Cleveland Orchestra was providing world class entertainment at the Van Wezel in Sarasota, Monday night.  The evening featured a performance of the second Brahms piano concerto by Yefim Bronfman, considered one of the world’s finest concert pianists. It was the first of four concerts this week in Florida that the orchestra is performing with Bronfman.

The independent publisher has produced thousands of photographic histories for towns all across the United States, using local authors and historians. For its newest entry, Palmetto, Arcadia tapped our own Merab Favorite to assemble a pictorial of this Manatee County town. The result is the history-rich tale that fans of her Sunday Favorites column would expect, told through rare and iconic photographs, enhanced by the author's detailed and poignant captions.
