DAYTONA – The Daytona Cubs (51-54, 25-12) walked off as 6-4 winners over the Marauders (57-49, 22-15) on Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Kyle Schwarber, the fourth overall selection in the 2014 draft, homered off Ryan Hafner (L, 1-4) to end the game.

The Marauders scored the first run of the game in the third inning against Cubs starter Rob Zastryzny. Jacob Stallings walked with one out, went to third on a double by Justin Maffei, and scored on a ground out to second by Adam Frazier.

The Cubs took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning, but Frazier struck in the fifth. With Maffei at first and two outs, Frazier belted his first professional home run to but Bradenton back in front 3-2. Bradenton extended the lead in the sixth with Maffei singled in Eric Wood to give the Marauders a 4-2 advantage.

Daytona had the answer again in the home half of the sixth, getting a double from Schwarber and two walks to load the bases against Shane Carle. Billy McKinney’s sacrifice fly and Wes Darvill’s two-out single each plated a run to tie the game 4-4. Josh Smith got the final out of the inning and pitched the seventh.

The Marauders put the go-ahead run at third with less than two outs in the eighth and 10th but came away empty. Max Moroff tripled in the eighth to begin the inning, but Yao-Lin Wang escaped the threat. Stephen Perakslis (W, 2-0) allowed a leadoff hit to Jose Osuna in the 10th, but with Osuna at third and one out Wood lined out to second. Perakslis got a comebacker to end the inning.

Hafner set down the first seven men he faced before Marco Hernandez singled in front of Schwarber with one out in the 10th. Maffei went 3-for-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI. Jordan Steranka had three singles and a walk in a 3-for-4 performance.

The Marauders and Cubs matchup again on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Chad Kuhl goes in search of his 12th win for Bradenton, while the Cubs will send Justin Amlung to the mound. The game will be broadcast online on www.BradentonMarauders.com.
