Marauders Hand Blue Jays a 1-0 Defeat
BRADENTON – The Marauders (54-45, 19-11) defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays (61-40, 15-17) 1-0 on Tuesday night at McKechnie Field, limiting the Blue Jays to six hits. Tyler Glasnow (W, 7-4) struck out 11, one shy of his season high, over six dominant innings.
The Marauders scored the only run of the game with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Adam Frazier led off with an infield single to shortstop, moved to second on Walker Gourley’s sacrifice bunt, and scored one out later on Jordan Steranka’s base hit to left. Steranka has driven in 13 runs with two outs and runners aboard this season.
Glasnow struck out two batters in each of the first five innings and ended his night with a strikeout in the sixth. In the fifth, he wriggled out of a bases loaded, nobody out jam. He escaped trouble by striking out two batters with a pop up sandwiched in between. Glasnow has posted three double digit strikeout games this season.
The Blue Jays nearly evened the game against Jhondaniel Medina in the seventh. With Gustavo Pierre at first and one out in the inning, Ian Parmley belted a double to the base of the wall in left. Walker Gourley hit the cutoff man, Max Moroff, who threw a one-hop strike to the plate to catch Pierre. Medina retired the next four batters. Yhonathan Barrios (S, 3) pitched a perfect ninth.
The shutout is the 14th by the Bradenton pitching staff this season.
The series finale is Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Jason Creasy will be on the mound for Bradenton.
