Bradenton Loses 2-1 to Palm Beach in 12 Inning Bout

Published Wednesday, June 25, 2014 12:02 am

BRADENTON – The Marauders (39-36, 4-2) fell 2-1 in 12 innings to the Palm Beach Cardinals (41-34, 5-1) on Tuesday afternoon at McKechnie Field. Bruce Caldwell plated the go-ahead run for Palm Beach in the 12th inning with a double to right field off Robby Rowland (L, 2-6).

Tyler Glasnow started for the Marauders and stole the show for the first seven innings. The start was the longest of Glasnow’s career. The righty struck out six and allowed only one hit, a sharp single to left by Caldwell in the third. Palm Beach dinged Glasnow for the first run of the game in the fourth, when Glasnow issued his two walks consecutively to start the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Alex Mejia, followed by a sacrifice fly by Nick Martini yielded the first run allowed by Glasnow since May 22.

The Marauders knotted the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jordan Steranka was walked by Palm Beach starter Joe Cuda with one away in the inning. Jonathan Schwind tripled to right field, scoring Steranka. Cuda stranded Schwind and completed seven innings, allowing one run on four hits.

Josh Smith fired three scoreless innings for Bradenton in relief of Glasnow. Robby Rowland (L, 2-6) pitched a scoreless 11th inning before surrendering the game-winner in the 12th inning.

Corey Baker (W, 3-1) logged four scoreless innings out of the pen for the Cardinals to earn the win. Dixon Llorens (S, 6) pitched the 12th inning to earn the save.

The Marauders host the Jupiter Hammerheads Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Orlando Castro will start for the Marauders.
