City Council Approves Amendment for Major Residential Project to Start Development
BRADENTON - An amendment that allows a major development project on 26th Avenue East to begin was approved by the Bradenton City Council on Wednesday.
Village of Glen Creek, which will encompass 1,373 residential units on an area of 229 acres, will begin "a design phase" right away.
Currently an orange grove next to Mixon Fruit Farms, the design for most of the site's housing will be multi-family and attached single-family with detached single-family units on 45', 52' and 62' wide lots, a departure from the previously approved widths of 52', 65', and 75'.
The developer's director of land development, Mike Lawson, advised that the long-delayed project - which was approved a year before the financial crisis hit and the real estate market bubble popped - could be finshed within six years.
The amendment was approved unanimously by the council, with 29 stipulations set by the city. Those stipulations include one for tree preservations, which "shall be provided to the fullest extent possible;" an opaque fence of at least 10 ft. wide and 6 ft. high to surround the area as a landscape buffer; and streetlights that would be the responsibility of the developer to install.
