Clearwater Shuts Out Bradenton 1-0
CLEARWATER – The Marauders (27-28) dropped the first game of a four-game set in Clearwater 1-0 against the Threshers (12-41) on Saturday night. Four Clearwater pitchers limited Bradenton to four hits. Orlando Castro (L, 3-3) was the tough luck loser, surrendering one run in the first inning and seeing it stand up for the home team.
Castro hit Roman Quinn leading off the bottom of the first inning in a scoreless game. With one out, Pete Lavin and Art Charles smacked consecutive singles to right field with the latter bringing home Quinn. The Threshers loaded the bases with one out, but Castro induced a 1-2-3 double play from Andrew Knapp to end the threat.
Miguel Nunez (W, 2-3) pitched the first six innings for Clearwater. After allowing consecutive singles to Jonathan Schwind and Max Moroff in the second, Nunez walked Taylor Lewis to load the bases with two outs. The righty struck Jacob Stallings out to escape the jam. Schwind singled with one out in the fourth inning and stole second, but was doubled off while trying to steal third when Moroff lined out to center field.
Dan Child, former Major Leaguer Shawn Camp, and Jordan Guth (S, 4) each pitched one inning to close out the game for the Threshers. Guth loaded the bases on walks in the ninth, but struck out Eric Wood to end the game.
Game two of the series is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Jason Creasy heads to the hill for the Marauders. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
