BRADENTON – On March 15, the Saramana Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard dedicated a Liberty Tree during the opening ceremony for the Manatee Village Historical Park "Open House."

Following the posting of the colors, the current President of the Saramana Chapter, Vic McMurry read the similarly-worded proclamations by Mayor Wayne Poston and the Manatee County Commission. Then the immediate past president, Chuck Sweeney, gave a history lesson on the origins of a Liberty Tree.

A demonstration of the folding of an American flag into a triangle was given by four members of Boy Scout Troop 64 of Bradenton. They were Nicholas Patnaude, Dalton Knueppel, Haden Palino and Brett Witham. They were accompanied by Scoutmaster Karl Knueppel and two other adult leaders. The triangle formed by a properly folded flag thirteen times is reminiscent of the tricorn hat worn by our founding fathers when we broke away from our mother country.

The service concluded with Sarah Potts, a member of Osceola Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution leading the audience in the singing of God Bless America.
