Captain Favorite's Weekend Fishing Forecast: Dec. 26, 2013

Your One-Stop Spot for Fishing in Manatee County

Published Thursday, December 26, 2013 12:02 am

BRADENTON – There is a FWC buoy in Tampa Bay to aid water quality and harmful algal bloom monitoring. A warm front should move across Florida over the weekend just in time to try out those Christmas presents you received. Our contributing Capt. Rick Grassett recommends fishing deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay for trout, blues and more. Looking for false albacore and tripletail in the coastal gulf when conditions are good should also be a good option next week.

  • Investigators with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) need the public’s help.

Sometime during the evening hours of Dec. 1 or early morning hours of Dec. 2 someone using the Davis Beach Boat Ramp (also called Research Road) on Tyndall Air Force Base unloaded and dumped at least 400 pounds of roe mullet, spotted seatrout, pompano, flounder, Spanish mackerel and bluefish at the ramp. The discarded fish were discovered by Tyndall staff on Dec. 2.

New FWC buoy in Tampa Bay to aid water quality, harmful algal bloom monitoring

  • A new buoy deployed this month by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in Old Tampa Bay collects continuous water quality information to help researchers learn more about conditions that trigger harmful algal blooms.
