Manatee County Rural Health Services has announced that Dr. Elizabeth Garland, O.D., has joined its Eye Care Department.

Dr. Garland will divide her time between MCRHS’ Eye Care offices in Sarasota at the North County Family Vision Center, located at 1945 Northgate Blvd.; the East Manatee Family Eye Care Center at 1312 East Manatee Ave., Bradenton; and the Arcadia Family Optometry Center at 122 N. Brevard Ave. in Arcadia.

Dr. Garland completed her residency training at the Malcolm Randall Veterans Affairs Medical Center and worked at Veterans Affairs before joining MCRHS. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida and earned a Doctor of Optometry degree with honors from New England College of Optometry.

The MCRHS Eye Care Department accepts most insurance and utilizes a sliding fee scale based on Federal guidelines for people who are uninsured.

MCRHS’ mission is to deliver the highest quality primary and specialty care and preventative health education to anyone who needs our services, regardless of ability to pay. MCRHS is the largest Federally Qualified Health Center in the southeastern United States, based on the number of patients and patient visits. In fiscal 2011, MCRHS’ providers saw 88,800 patients, accounting for a total of 429,734 patient visits, and provided services to nearly 70 percent of all residents in our service areas that live at or below the Federal Poverty Level. MCRHS has received accreditation from the Joint Commission, the national accrediting organization for healthcare providers, for 14 consecutive years.
