Captain Favorite's Weekend Fishing Forecast March 7, 2013

Published Thursday, March 7, 2013 12:04 am

BRADENTON -- This weekend is the second largest Florida Keys event: Marathon Seafood Festival! Contributing Capt. Rick Grassett said tides will improve towards the end of next week as we approach a new moon. Since water temperatures have dropped sharply following a couple of strong fronts last week, afternoons should fish better than mornings. You should find trout, Spanish mackerel, blues, pompano and more on deep grass flats of Sarasota Bay. You may also find blues and Spanish mackerel in passes when the tide is moving. Look for reds around docks, in potholes and on the edges of bars when the tide is low or on shallow flats on sunny afternoons when the tide is high.

A cold front will move south of the Gulf waters tonight. Strong and gusty winds and high seas currently affecting the waters will begin to diminish and subside later tonight through Thursday as high pressure builds in from the north. The high will slide east toward the mid Atlantic on Friday and into the western Atlantic during the upcoming weekend with winds veering into the east. As the high slides east there will be chances for an easterly surge with wind speeds approaching cautionary level during the evening hours during the upcoming weekend.
