Comments:

I can honestly say Social Security is not important in my retirement income plan. I recieve none. Whether for good or ill, most of my working years were spent in Federal Civil service, I did not accumulate enough quarters paying into the Social Security System. I am shy about a year, so all you folks drawing Social Security checks are benefiting from what I paid in. Fine. Part of the "implied contract" I had as a Federal Employee was a 'defined benefits' full pension, which I and my employer, the Federal Government, contributed to. Of course that was years ago under the old system. I didn't get rich, but as long as I performed my job to the satisfaction of my bosses - I could one day expect a reasonably secure pension income. So that's my story - no Social Security - and why Social Security is not important to my retirement.
