Pirates to Hold Spring Training National Anthem Auditions

BRADENTON – Missed out on the American Idol tryouts? Not to worry, you can still have your moment. The Pittsburgh Pirates will hold National Anthem auditions a week from this Saturday for local crooners interested in a chance to sing The Star Spangled Banner at McKechnie Field prior to a 2013 Pirates Spring Training game. Think you have what it takes? Auditions are open to the public, so come on out and hit the high notes for your chance to kick off a game this spring.
The auditions will take place on Saturday, February 9 from 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Pirate City Dining Hall. Auditions are open to anyone and will be conducted a cappella with a 2-minute time limit. The club also needs someone to sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Pirates game against Toronto on Wednesday, March 13 and will be audtioning for that spot at the try-outs as well.
Pirate City is located on 27th Street East in Bradenton. The Pirates will play an 18-game home schedule at McKechnie Field this spring, beginning with the Black and Gold intrasquad game on Friday, February 22.
