The Bradenton Times Polls

Poll Question: Which of the following best describe how you feel about elementary school security?

We should have a county deputy in every school, even at an average cost of $144,00 each  We should spend the current $1 million budgeted on 7 roaming deputies  The budgeted funds should be spent on better securing the buildings; ie. security doors, lockdown switches, cameras, etc.  The funds should go to educational needs and any police presence should be a function of law enforcement in that community and its budget More polls »

Congressman Buchanan Calls for Halt of U.S. Aid to Egypt

Condemns Egypt's Support of Hamas

BRADENTON – U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan has called on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to immediately suspend U.S. aid to Egypt, saying “American taxpayer dollars should not be used to aid and abet any nation that stands with terrorists.” In the past week, newly-elected Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has openly sided with the terrorist group Hamas in its current conflict with Israel.

“Sending billions of hard earned American dollars to a country that supports Hamas is immoral,” said Buchanan. “This year alone, Hamas has orchestrated the firing of over 1,000 rockets and missiles into southern Israel. Yet Egypt openly allies itself with this terrorist group and publicly condemns Israel’s right to defend itself. It’s time to prove through our actions, not our words that Israel has our unwavering support.”

Politico reported Monday that “the Egyptian government clearly sides with Hamas in its current conflict with Israel. Egypt recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv, and Morsi castigated Israel for what he called 'wanton aggression on the Gaza Strip.' Neither he nor any other Egyptian official offered even glancing acknowledgment of the scores of rockets Hamas fired into Israel, igniting the current crisis…”

Since 1979, Egypt has been the second largest recipient of U.S. foreign assistance, receiving an average of $2 billion annually.  Last year, the U.S. also agreed to $1 billion in debt relief, in the hope of advancing a democratic transition.

Morsi & his group are sweeping all Egypt with power now... Is that what America wants? Another Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan??????

Hello All. I applaud the letter by Tad McKie to Congressman Vern Buchanan regarding foreign Aid. It is time our elected Representatives start working for those People that elected them instead of factions all over the World that have no interest in the People that give to them, the American Taxpayers.

It's not just Egypt. All monetary foreign should stop. We give twice as much money to Israel's enemies as we do to Israel. It's a foolish waste that is not only unconstitutional, it does nothing more than take money from poor people in this country and give it to rich people in poor countries. You say it's just a "drop in the bucket"?... Well.. That's one less drop we have to borrow or create out of nothing.
