Once a Week Commitment

MANATEE COUNTY – The Cypress Bay Lightning brought an offense worthy of its name, when they arrived at Hawkins Stadium to take on the Hurricanes in Friday night's homecoming game. The Lightning were able to scorch the vaunted Hurricane defense for over 300 yards on the ground Friday night, though the 20 points they managed were not enough to keep the game close once the 'Canes began to grind them down and pull away.

Manatee's front four got good penetration all night, but highly-mobile QB Tay Lewis consistently slipped through their hands, avoiding several sacks deep behind the line of scrimmage. It was Manatee's offense that stole the show this week, putting up 42 points, despite losing versatile slot back Anthony Lauro for the season, after he underwent knee surgery earlier this week. Speedy receiver Marquel Hines stepped up for the 'Canes, scoring three TDs in the second half, while QB Cord Sandberg rushed for over 100 yards and threw for nearly 200, including three TD's.

Southeast overcame a 20-3 deficit to win 24-20 after a 34-yard run by RB Courtney Allen put the 'Noles ahead late in the game. Southeast leaned heavily on Allen, as QB Myles Braxton-Johnson sat out with a concussion, but the junior speedster answered the call, logging 187 yards on the ground. Calvin Williams rushed for 105 yards to lead Bayshore to a 35-0 victory in their Thursday night homecoming game.
