Manatee Special Olympics Aquatics Team Wins 13 Medals at State Championships
BRADENTON – The Manatee County Special Olympics continues to write chapters in an ongoing success story. Last month, Manatee County chapter founder Sue Fitzgerald was honored by the county commission for the amazing work she'd done over the last 40 years. Last weekend, special athletes from Manatee County's aquatics team brought home a trove of medals to commemorate their hard work and inspiring dedication.
Each member of the aquatics team competing at states won medals at the Special Olympics Florida State Aquatics Championship in Sebastian, FL October 6 and 7. Athletes who made it to the state championship level were:
Billie J. Laird: 2 Gold Medals (100m freestyle and 100m backstroke)
Karen Dyr: 2 Silver Medals (50m freestyle and 100m Individual Medley)
Tim Freed: 1 Silver 1 Bronze (200m freestyle and 400m freestyle)
Kirsten Griggs: 2 Gold Medals (100m freestyle and 100m backstroke)
Roger Boudreau: 1 Gold 1 Bronze (25m backstroke and 25m freestyle)
Jamisen Hernandez: 1 Silver Medal (25m freestyle)
Jonathan Moore: 1 Gold 1 Silver (50m backstroke and 100m freestyle)
