Candidate Profile: Bradenton City Council Ward 2: Binnie N. Williams

Published Monday, October 8, 2012 12:05 am

Candidate: Binnie N. Williams

Age: 75

Hometown: Bradenton

Residence: Bradenton

Occupation: Owner of Creative Solutions, video producer and writer

Education: University of Chicago; B.A., University of Illinois

Wanting to “redefine political representation,” Binnie Williams is contending for Bradenton City Council’s Ward 2.

Williams previously ran for Manatee County School Board, but lost, though she earned more than 10,000 votes. She has chaired organizations and participated throughout the area as a community organizer.

She co-founded the Green Bridge Fan Club, Youth Services Clearinghouse, the Rubonia Youth Center and the county’s oldest domestic violence shelter for women and children, also serving as co-coordinator for a one-stop social services center.

As a volunteer, Williams donates her free time to the Girl’s Club and Adopt-a-Family and is a member of Altrusa, Manatee Chamber of Commerce and Hope of Manatee.

Comments:

I thank you so much for mentioning me. Your readers should know that when the latest permit was issued giving away public land on the river the developer paid millions - and not one penny of it goes to the public, whose land was taken. Like the rest of the public land that was taken it will provide condos for the
wealthy who will have bought a river view.
