Mendez, who has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce's Downtown Redevelopment Committee since 1998, also served on the Mobility Study Working Group and was on the initial marketing committee for Realize Bradenton. Mendez also serves on the Chamber's Downtown Redevelopment Committee, Transportation Committee and the Better Business Council Committee.
Mendez is currently the tour guide at Port Manatee and also has a disc jockeying business. He is the first to file for the seat that will be vacated by Councilwoman Marianne Barnebey. Barnebey will give up the seat to run for the Mayor's office. Joining Barnebey and incumbent Mayor Wayne Poston in that race is Travis Holliday.
Mendez faces Binnie Williams and Gene Brown on the November ballot. The city council race is non-partisan. All voters who live within the city borders can participate.
