BRADENTON – Manatee and Palmetto remained undefeated with blowout wins Friday night, as the teams continue to move toward what could be the biggest local game in recent years, when they meet at Hawkins Stadium October 26. Lakewood Ranch clawed out a hard-fought win over Tarpon Springs, while St. Stephen's and Bradenton Christian both had spoiled homecomings. Weather delayed Southeast's game with DeSoto until Monday night at 6 p.m..
Undefeated Palmetto piled up plays for the highlight reel in routing Bayshore 48-7. RB Josh Hicks broke a 73-yard TD run, while WR Shaq Harris returned a kickoff 78 yards for the TD, while fellow receiver E.J. Burston took a quick slant 66-yards for the score – one of three TD receptions on the night, as QB Chris Tuten continues to gel for the Tigers.
Manatee needed less than 300 yards in total offense to rack up 56 points against Braden River, thanks to the relentless Hurricane defense, which kept them near the red zone all night, while shutting out the the winless Pirates. Lakewood Ranch got an important win and moved to 4-2 with a 41-34 win over Tarpon Springs.
