Committed to protecting local citizens, the State Attorney’s Chief Assistant Ed Brodsky is running as a Republican candidate for State Attorney. After winning the Republican Primary in August, Brodsky faces a challenge from political newcomer John Toracco in November.
Brodsky has had an admiration for law enforcement ever since he was a child. He fulfilled his dream of becoming a police officer once graduating from an academy and holding rank as a reserve police officer. At one time, Brodsky also served the Military Police in the Florida Army National Guard.
While completing his criminology degree, Brodsky was inspired to pursue a career as a prosecutor, once employed by the Pinellas County Public Defender’s Office. He eventually graduated from Nova University Law School and transitioned to the 12th Circuit State Attorney’s Office, after having briefly worked for Broward's State Attorney.
20 years of professional experience has led Brodsky to bring crimes like domestic battery, criminal traffic offense and DUI manslaughter to trial. Later, being promoted to the Sex Crimes Division allowed Brodsky to prosecute sex offenders and major cases involving murder, manslaughter, sexual battery and trafficking.
Before appointed to Chief Assistant, Brodsky was the Felony Division Chief. He has participated on the county’s Public Safety Coordinating Council and is currently a member of the Sarasota County Criminal Justice Commission. The Court Administration, Clerk of Courts, Police Departments, Sheriff’s Office and Public Defender’s Office are all agencies Brodsky has collaborated with.
Brodsky has achieved Criminal Trial Certification from the Florida Bar and believes he possesses the necessary background and dedication to secure public safety within the community as State Attorney.
