Manatee County’s current District 3 Commissioner John Chappie moved to Bradenton Beach 34 years ago, becoming the mayor and teaming up with the City Commission to develop a Community Reinvestment Act for Bridge Street and surrounding areas. Because of the new legislation, Bridge Street has economically and aesthetically thrived. After completing his first term on the BOCC, Chappie is unopposed for reelection.
Chappie was elected County Commissioner in 2008 and is an Anna Maria Island and Manatee County Chamber of Commerce member. He also volunteers with Keep Manatee Beautiful and serves as the Board Director of Legacy III, a non-profit Ohio corporation that provides housing services to Summit County women recovering from substance abuse.
