Surprise Guest -- Palmetto Mayor, Shirley Groover Bryant, arrived toting a $800,000 check to kick off the the new baseball fields. The contracts hadn't been drawn up yet, but that wasn't the only problem commissioners had in accepting the check. The gesture led to some defining moments. What has taken almost four years to prepare formed a couple of uncomfortable bumps in the road. But all agree, the only goal is to get the fields built for the kids who are tired of waiting. REGULAR AGENDA
31. Taylor Nursery Property Presentation on proposed uses of property located at the northeast corner of 9th Street East and 63rd Avenue East within the South County Community Redevelopment Area.
Many came to speak in support of a Request For Proposal (RFP) on the Pride Park Center. Groups and organizations near and far came to give their support. In an area plagued with declining property values, crime and economic strife for years past, has been experiencing leaps and bounds in the direction of recovery. The hard work by all is progress no one wants to see stop. The ideas and commitments were vast but spoke unanimously to continue the invested development and the need to provide a center that would facilitate activities for the area's youth. All parties want to work harder at what's working. No action needed and a decision will come soon. TBT will continue to follow the issue and will have an article on and about the collective efforts of those too many to mention in this report. We love following success stories.

COMMISSIONER COMMENTS:
Commissioner DiSabatino- spoke to the thanks that deservingly goes to the Bible Baptist Church for all of activities and work they do in benefit to the local youth. She mentioned that the Jan. 28 teen night not only went well, but that the church also provides Co-Ed Volleyball, 18 and up, on Monday Nights, 7 - 9 p.m. On Thursdays night is Men's Basketball Night. Another subject was her disappointment that last Thursday's Land Use Meeting did not find a way to give amply time to citizens and groups that were there and signed up to speak. She said, "They are our bosses, it is up to us to find a way for them to speak. It wasn't fair."
Commissioner Gallen- wanted fellow Commissioners to examine the redevelopment aimes of the old Skyline Bar building, on Hwy. 41, North of Palmetto, and figure out a formula that would help those interested to turn it into a "Childcare Center."
Commissioner Whitmore- requested the need for more professionals to help with healthcare for the homeless. She said, "sometimes someone will be discharged from the hospital, still in need of attention, and the shelters are overwhelmed with those in need." She wants to get the word out for more healthcare professionals to please consider investing in a very worthy cause.
Commissioner McClash- graced the commission with a drawing sent by 11-year-old Isabel Buchanan, of a park she is requesting the county consider. It was beautiful and worthy of any refrigerator. He also mentioned the need to look into the network beneath wetlands that connect in a way that has been generally misunderstood. The nature of this network was revealed by one of the highly qualified expert witnesses in discussion at a recent land use meeting. He added, "I don't like the state making decisions about the county that could have costly effects on the county. They don't even invite us to the table."
Commissioner Bustle- wants someone to approach the very complicated golf cart situation. It is too dangerous to have them on the road he says, and FDOT won't let them on the sidewalk. What are we to do? County Administrator, Ed Hunzeker said it would be extremely difficult to change anything except maybe an ordinance, and that wouldn't be easy. They are looking into it.
