BRADENTON -- The Manatee County BOCC Meeting Agenda Results

PROCLAMATIONS

1. Lakewood Ranch High School Pride Day – January 24, 2012 -- Winners of the 2-way 2011, Golf Championship with a undefeated season. Their nine regional and 1 local tournaments leaves them with a winning record of 103 to 0, all while maintaining a group, 3.19 grade point average. Look-out PGA

PRESENTATIONS 

2. Sports Performance Industry – Presentation by Manatee Economic Development Council and the Sports Performance Task Force. A presentation by Sharon Hillstrom from the Economic Development showcased "Destination Manatee" and all of its support. Hundreds of companies and thousands of people are involved in making up the largest sports hub in the region. Connected to training camps, professional groups and competitive institutions that exceed in nearly every competitive sport. This team of sport specialist has put Manatee on the map. Tomorrow TBT will review, in a special report, some of their major accomplishments. Please join us.

3. Suncoast Workforce Board – Authorize Chairman to send letter to Manatee County Delegation opposing

HB 7023/SB 1398

4. Outside Counsel – Authorize County Attorney to execute agreement to retain the Shulman Rogers law firm for

services related to the County’s FCC licenses, via a form of agreement and under such terms and conditions as

approved by the County Attorney

5. Tax Deed Sale – Accept $10,000 from Bay Living, Inc., as full payment for the outstanding Rehabilitative State

Housing Initiatives Partnership mortgage

6. Wares Creek, Phase III – Adopt Resolutions R-12-012 (rescinding and replacing R-08-275), R-12-014, R-12- 020, R-12-022, R-12-024, R-12-026, and R-12-028 determining purpose and necessity, and R-12-013 (rescinding and replacing R-08-276), R-12-015, R-12-021, R-12-023, R-12-025, R-12-027, and R-12-029 authorizing use of eminent domain “quick take” proceedings, for the acquisition of certain parcels of privately owned realty as related to the proposed dredging. County Attorney, Rodney Wake, discussed the Phase II overview of the Wares Creek project. Attempts to complete the deal has been difficult, attorneys representing the Tropical Palms Park, have not agreed to any deal offered. Many efforts have been made and settlement will go to the courts. Eminent Domain will continue. -- Approved, 6 - 0, Hayes absent

8. Wingate Creek Mine – Authorize setting public hearings on April 12, 2012 for Planning Commission and

9. Baker Act Transportation Exception Plan – Authorize Chairman to sign letter to Jeff Watts, Regional Director,

20. Disaster Staging Area – Adopt Resolution R-12-003 authorizing execution of license agreement with Tropicana

Manufacturing Company, Inc., for use of Warehouse #17 as staging area to receive and break down emergency

resources to be distributed to emergency relief distribution sites*

21. Uncollectible EMS Accounts – Adopt Resolution R-12-032 to remove uncollectible accounts for ambulance

MANATEE COUNTY PORT AUTHORITY

Special Vote on CH2M Hill, bidding process for Dock extension and storage yard. Bidding schedule will be announced. -- Approved, 5 to 2, DiSabatino and Hayes dissent.

ADMINISTRATION/COMMISSION COMMENTS

Commissioner DiSabtino wanted to thank Commissioner McClash for showing up and speaking at the Town Hall Meeting Thursday night, 1/19, and also thank the great showing of residents. She also stopped by and visited with Woodruff and Sons, who's business was established in 1947. She said they are holding on and and working hard.

Commissioner Gallen wanted the Board to work towards opening the schools for off hours activities and asked for a motion that would adopt bill HB 431 and SB 808 so to get tort relief in liabilities allowing his program to go forward. Gallen is determined to provide alternative activities so kids have things to do. Motion was second and -- Approved, 6 - 0, Hayes absent

Commissioner Whitmore said to look for this months Southern Living magazine because Anna Maria Island is featured in it.

Commissioner McClash said the MPO meeting where the Venice Bypass was just approved, possibly with too much highway could offer a lesson in overbuilding. He also asked Commissioners to consider going forward with the 301 bridge. He said the project is in the long term plan and it is the most congested highway in the area. He was very concerned there were no sidewalks and no bike path making it dangerous.

Commissioner Chappie wants to send a letter to South/West Airlines and ask them to reconsider their plan cut flights.
