House Committee Approves Amendment for Term Limits on County Officials
BRADENTON – The House Community & Military Affairs Subcommittee passed a bill on Wednesday that would allow local voters to approve term limits for county elected officials via referendum.
HB 785 would place a constitutional amendment on the statewide ballot. It was filed in response to court rulings which question whether the Florida Constitution allows term limits on county officials, said the bill's sponsor, Rep. John Wood (R-Haines City).
Last month, the Florida Supreme Court agreed to hear an appeal of a ruling overturning a lower court case that found term limits unconstitutional in Broward County.
