Low Reclaimed Water Pressure Result of Dry Spell and High Customer Demand

Customers are to conserve irrigation water

Published Tuesday, December 27, 2011 2:00 am

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County Utilities Department advises reclaimed water users that low pressure will be experienced until further notice due to a lack of rain and heavy demand from our customers.  We are working with our large users to balance the system demand allowing the Utilities Department to provide service with the limited quantity of water available.

Until further notice, the Utilities Department asks that all reclaimed users, limit usage of reclaimed irrigation water to the absolute minimum.  It is typical for plants and grass to enter into a more dormant stage requiring less water at this time of the year, so once a week watering is sufficient. Residents with non-reclaimed services have been limited to two days a week watering schedule according to the Southwest Florida Water Management District since early 2007.

Each day Manatee’s Agricultural Reuse System (MARS) supplies approximately 18 million gallons of quality irrigation water to approximately 8,000 customers including residential, commercial, golf course, park and farm customers. Customer based conservation measures and a series of rain events will allow the system to recover.

Notification will be provided by the Utilities Department upon system recovery.
