Weekend Adventures in Bradenton, March 18-20

BRADENTON--Spring Training baseball and remembering the 60’s highlight this weekend’s adventures in Bradenton as the Pittsburgh Pirates host the Boston Red Sox on Saturday afternoon at McKechnie Field. Diners can revisit the 1960’s at a pair of themed restaurant experiences as part of Realize Bradenton’s events on both Saturday and Sunday.

 

In the spirit of the baseball season, this month’s Reels at Rossi Park movie will be the baseball fantasy Field of Dreams starring Kevin Costner, James Earl Jones, Amy Madigan, Ray Liotta and Burt Lan­caster as Archibald “Moonlight” Graham. Movie starts at sunset Friday in Rossi Park near the clock­tower. There is no cost to attend.

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Boston Red Sox at 1:05 p.m. Saturday at McKechnie Field in Bradenton. At this game some Bradenton police officers will help raise money for the family of fallen St. Petersburg Police Officer David Crawford with special memorial T-shirts for sale. All proceeds go to the family. Get tickets for all home games at the McKechnie Field box office, 1611 9th St. W.

Realize Bradenton Brings Groovy Ways to “Shout the 60s!” On Saturday there will be a Tie Dye English Dinner, Londoner Bed & Breakfast beginning at 6:00 p.m. This traditional English dinner will feature roast beef and Yorkshire pudding with all the trimmings. To enhance the feeling that they are in the 1960s, diners should wear their funkiest 60s attire and bring their own wine. Reservations are required.

Alice’s Restaurant Revisited, SoMa Diner on Sunday, March 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Those who prefer American comfort food will love SoMa Diner's Tribute to Alice's Restaurant. The 1967 menu features wedge of lettuce salad, local turkey, corn pudding, whipped redskin potatoes, beans, sweet potatoes, sage-cracklin' stuffing & giblet gravy, berry compote, and butter fried angel food cake with whipped cream. Reservations and dressing in psychedelic clothing are recommended for this memorable 60's culinary experience.
