VIDEO: Pittsburgh Pirates Open Spring Training With 21-1 Win Over SCF Manatees
BRADENTON--You may not expect to win as a Junior College baseball team heading into a Major League Spring training game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but you hope to learn something from the experience. The SCF Manatees learned a lot about themselves and what it takes to be a professional baseball player Friday afternoon as they were handed a 21-1 loss to the Pirates in the opening day of Spring baseball at McKechnie Field in Bradenton.
In what has become a tradition, the Pirates open its Grapefruit League schedule with a game against the State College of Florida Manatees, one of the top JUCO college baseball teams in the country. The game benefited the Manatee Education Foundation.
Bradenton Times reporter Doug Miles and “Florida Watch” panelist Gary Schuster broadcast Friday’s game which can be accessed by clicking here. A video post-game recap follows:
Doug Miles covers Manatee County and Bradenton local government, sports and features for The Bradenton Times. He can be contacted at doug.miles@thebradentontimes.com
