AUDIO: Interview with Deana Martin
SARASOTA--Deana Martin has seen first hand the greats in show business from her father, the legendary Dean Martin, to her “Uncle Frank” Sinatra and their friends Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope, George Burns and Jack Benny just to name a few. She is continuing the legacy of music that Dino made popular in his top-selling albums and classic TV variety show with the same class and fun that made her father such a favorite.
On Thursday, Deana Martin will headline a show with another legend, Bob Newhart at Van Wezel Hall in Sarasota beginning at 8:00 p.m. Newhart was a frequent guest on Dean Martin’s variety show. Deana first met the comedian famous for his telephone routines in 1971 when they worked together on a sketch on the program.
In addition to her busy touring schedule, Deana Martin is working on a movie about her Dad based on her best selling book “Dean Martin, Through Her Daughter’s Eyes”. Actress/Producer Bonnie Hunt is writing the screenplay and actor/director Joe Mantegna is slated to direct the film. Deana is searching for the right actor to play Dean Martin. “I need to find someone who has the charisma and charm my father had”, she said.
