Manatee County Commission: Gallen Beats Brown, DiSabatino Edges Luppino

MANATEE COUNTY Michael Gallen survived a last-minute onslaught of negative campaigning to oust 16-year BCC veteran Gwen Brown by nearly 12 points. Brown raised over $50,000, but only received 2,800 votes not a very good ROI. Since no Republican filed to run in District 4, the primary was open and Gallen wins the seat, without November opposition.

Tim Norwood was able to get a suprising 30% in the Republican District 4 primary, playing the spoiler, as Robin DiSabatino edged Norm Luppino by fewer than 200 votes. Disabatino will now face Democrat Roger Galle in November for the seat. The race had been defined by DiSabatino's strong support from local developers and Norwood's persistent attacks on Luppino.
