Of the 100 companies recognized in the magazine’s second annual “Best Companies” survey, the Foundation ranked 19th in the small company category and was the only community foundation to make the list. The rankings appear in the August issue of Florida Trend and online at FloridaTrend.com/BestCompanies.
Companies throughout Florida entered a two-part survey process to determine the best company to work for in the state. The survey and award program then identified and honored the best places of employment, recognizing each company’s workplace policies, practices, philosophy, systems, and employee satisfaction.
In April, the Foundation also ranked number three in The NonProfit Times’ national survey of the “50 Best Nonprofits to Work For in 2010.”
In a profile of the Foundation that accompanied the new list, President and CEO Teri A Hansen credits linking organizational success with individual workers as directly as possible. “We may get a letter from somebody thanking us for something that we did that changed their life, and then we actually tie that to each person on the staff and explain that basically without them it wouldn’t have happened,” Hansen said. “We work really hard in making sure that our people keep their eye on our mission.”
Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice builds strong communities through leadership, partnership, and endowed philanthropy.
A public charity committed to improving the quality of life in the communities it serves, it is the largest community foundation in Florida. The Foundation was founded in late 1995 and has awarded more than $104 million in grants in the areas of arts and culture, health and human services, education, civic affairs, and the environment.
The Board of the Foundation envisions a region known for endowed philanthropy, a vital nonprofit community, and the ability to address emerging issues.
