As a born native of Palmetto, Jim Boyd has built a large resume of involvement and dedication on the local level.
Boyd is a graduate of Manatee Community College and has earned a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in 1978.
Soon after graduation, Boyd joined Boyd Insurance & Investment Services and has since held various positions within the firm. He is presently the Chief Executive Officer and co-owner.
Boyd achieved the Accredited Advisor of Insurance (AAI) in 1988, and has actively continued his education by seminar and workshop attendance. He holds Property & Casualty andLife & Health Insurance Licenses, as well as the Surplus Lines Brokers License. Boyd is also a Licensed Real Estate Broker and is President of The Boyd Group, a Commercial Real Estate Brokerage firm.
In running for election, Boyd realizes the importances of the major issues Florida is currently facing. "Everybody knows the economy and job outlook are suffering and there's a lot to be done to get people back to work," commented Boyd. "There needs to be project budget shifts, reducing of spending, and an assessment of what government services need to be funded."
The husband of 25 years and father of two has numerous community commitments. He is a member of the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, the Manatee Memorial Hospital Board of Governors, the American Red Cross, the Library Foundation and Palmetto Rotary Club.
He has served as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and a fire commissioner for the North River Fire District, and has worked on issues critical to the safety and well being of the area. And from 1989-1993, Boyd served as Palmetto City Councilman, Vice-Mayor and Mayor.
If elected, Boyd will continue a family tradition; his uncle, Wilbur Boyd, served in the Florida House and Senate in the 1960s and 1970s, and his grandfather, Hugh E. Boyd, served in the House in the 1940s.
Following in their foot steps, Boyd hopes to implement his knowledge and experience from the small business level to the state. "I know my community, what it needs, and the issues that are at hand," said Boyd. "I hope to offer my businnes skills from running a small business and translate them to the state level."
