"Barrack Obama and Charlie Crist have a lot in common; they both think that money grows on trees," Florida Governor Rick Scott told supporters at a campaign stop at Walt's Fish Market in Sarasota on Monday. The governor visited the iconic eatery on South Tamiami Trail, which has served Sarasota since 1918, as part of his Let's Keep Working tour.

President Bill Clinton will be joining Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist in Miami on Friday to kick off the final two months of his campaign to unseat Florida Governor Rick Scott. With polls between the two at pretty much a dead heat, Crist is hoping that the Democratic icon can help rally a base that is coming off a primary plagued by low voter turnout.

Thursday's BOCC Land Use Meeting is full of north county projects. There are request for zoning changes to increase density; Preliminary Site Plans; Special Approvals that ask for reductions in required tree sizes, set-backs and street sizes. There are specific requests to reduce roadway buffers and deviations from lot shape requirements, as well as a roadway naming request.

The Marauders dropped the first game of the Florida State League South Division Series on Tuesday night at McKechnie Field 8-7 against the Fort Myers Miracle. The Marauders scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning but did not score against as the Miracle rallied for the final five runs of the game. The Marauders must beat the Miracle on Wednesday in Fort Myers to extend the series to a decisive third game.

Among the games this Friday: St. Stephen's Episcopal Falcons will travel to Seffner Christian after shutting out Bishop McLaughlin Catholic by 42 points last week. On the heels of a 23-7 stunner that featured a late-game comeback win by Ware County, the Manatee Hurricanes will play their home opener against Sanford's Seminole High. The Palmetto Tigers will host St. Pete's Lakewood Spartans after losing 46-44 to Venice in their first game.

The equity markets rallied for the fourth week in a row last week with gains averaging 0.75%. Stocks continue to be supported by the bullish and uncommon combination of improving economic fundamentals and falling interest rates. The financial markets have also found support in a strong U.S. dollar. This combined with the fact that foreign sovereign bond yields are lower than U.S. Treasury 10-year and 30-year paper is helping to keep rates low at home.
