If Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio are nominated as their party's representative for the 2016 presidential race, it goes without saying that either one have a strong chance of carrying Florida in the November election. As the primary season plays out, both will also have a major advantage in winning the Sunshine Swing State when registered GOP voters in the state decide who their party's candidate should be.

On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced that Port Manatee has been awarded $326,250 in grant money. The grant will go toward strengthening the port's security.

In February, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved proposals designed to improve Florida white-tailed deer management at a local level by establishing deer management units (DMUs) throughout the state, each with its own set of antler regulations and antlerless deer harvest days.

At Tuesday's gruelingly long school board meeting, the best that could be said was that no permanent damage was done. A ham-fisted proposal to expand the board to seven members finally died, while continued efforts to not keep looking at the way bond money has been spent and diminish the outside internal audit function were expressed but not quite acted on. Meanwhile, the community awaits the governor's decision on an appointment to fill the pivotal fifth seat on a split board.
