Summit seeking to help young people
BRADENTON - Finding ways to make life better for young people will be the focus of a summit from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on May 14 at Lincoln Middle School's gymnasium.
The 2nd Annual Youth and Young Adult Crime Summit's purpose is to bring serious conversation about crime and violence issues affecting young people in the community. The key topics of discussion will be economic freedom, education and equipping the family.
The effort, according to a press release, will help develop priorities to redevelop communities into safe and secure areas offering hope for families.
The meeting will include entertaining activities with motivational speaker Moody Johnson. Also scheduled is the Truly Blessed Youth Mass Choir, and there will be information from several community organizations about programs, including job programs.
"We need the active participation of youth, adults and families - including businesses and organizations - to address the growing issue of violence and violent crimes in our communities," said Bradenton City Councilman Harold Byrd Jr. "This is an effort to bring us all together on one accord to reverse this trend."
Lincoln MIddle School is at 305 17th St. E. in Palmetto.
