Manatee County Voter Guide

The Bradenton Times encourages its readers to actively participate in our democracy. To assist you in making an informed vote, we've compiled a local voting guide that previews each primary race with a link to information on the candidates. It is intended to be a one-stop starting point to introduce you to the members of your community who will be asking you to elect them to public office. So get informed, and get out the vote! 

 

Manatee County has 3 Ways to Vote

  1. On election Day: November 2, 2010 -- Polls open at 7 a.m. and Close at 7 p.m.
  2. Early Voting: October 18 through October 31 at the Supervisor of Elections Office, 600 301 Boulevard West, Suite 118, Bradenton, FL, 8:30 a.m. -- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; Saturday 9 a.m. -- 1 p.m.; Sunday 12 p.m. -- 4 p.m. Call for more information (941) 741-3823
  3. Absentee Voting: Requests for absentee ballots must be received by 5 p.m. on the 6th day before the election ( Wed, October27) and received at the Supervisor of Elections office by 7 p.m. on election day. They may not be dropped off at a polling place.

2010 Florida Constitutional Amendments

In addition to the various offices, Florida Voters will be asked to vote on six potential amendments to the state constitution. Click each amendment for more information.

Amendment #1 -- Repeal of public campaign finance
Amendment #2 -- Homestead ad volorem tax credit for deployed military

Amendment #6 -- Standards for fair Congressional redistricting
Amendment #8 -- Repeal of the class-size requirments for public schools

Palmetto City Commission: Wards 1,  and 3 are up for election. Incumbent Tambra Varnadore representing Ward 2 was unopposed and is not on the ballot.

Manatee County School Board 

 Non-partisan - Elections were held during the primaries. Only the District 3 race failed to produce a majority winner. The two top vote getters in that race will participate in a run-off election. Every voter in Manatee County can vote.

Incumbent Senator Mel Martinez resigned from office. Governor Charlie Crist appointed George LeMeiux to finish his term. LeMeiux did not run to keep the seat. Governor Crist is vacating the Governor's office to run in this race. He originally filed as a Republican, but dropped out early in the primary race to run as an independent.
