Parkinson Research Foundation's 7th Annual Ed. Cruise for People with Parkinson's

Date: February 24, 2013 Phone: 941-893-4188Email: info@parkinsonresearchfoundation.org

The Parkinson Research Foundation (PRF)'s 7th Annual Educational Cruise for People with Parkinson's sails Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Departing from Port Canaveral, Florida, the Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas will tour the Eastern Caribbean, stopping in St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Cococay.

The 2013 cruise theme is Mardi Gras and all costumes, decorations, music and festivities will reflect that theme.

PRF designed the cruise as a blend of education and recreation. Programs will be offered while the ship is at sea, including interactive lectures on nutrition, medications, latest treatments and research, and empowerment programs such as voice aerobics, dance, therapeutic movement and support groups. Dr. Juan Sanchez-Ramos, a neurologist trained in movement disorders and Medical Director at Parkinson Place, will also be on board.

At the same time the cruise is also a getaway. While in port, the attendees are at their own leisure to tour the local beaches and culture, and sample the island food. On board activities also provide social opportunities, featuring a Gala Masquerade party.

There are 50 cabins and as of last week, all are booked. In past years, roughly 70% of cruise passengers flew in from out of state to attend.

Parkinson Research Foundation differs from other Parkinson organizations by focusing on patient education that enables Parkinson patients and their caregivers to live fuller and more comfortable lives. Its seminars, conferences, and educational cruises offer life-changing tools and knowledge for persons affected by the disease. Parkinson Place, and the Foundation, are headquartered at 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota 34232, telephone 941-893-4188, email info@parkinsonresearchfoundation.org.
