For sociability and benefit in treating Parkinson's and other diseases, Parkinson Place has introduced a new program, "Live it Up."

Every Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Parkinson Place will offer back-to-back programs that incorporate a sociability aspect, allowing members of Parkinson Place with private time to form relationships with other members and build a sense of community.

Things kick off at 10:00 a.m. with "Meet and Mingle", where members relax with social time and refreshments before the "Dance for Parkinson's" class taught by Leymis Wilmott. The dance class, which begins at 10:30 a.m., utilizes freestyle therapeutic movements to live music which promote balance and strength and elevate mood and a sense of freedom.

Members can then break for lunch and enjoy free time and the opportunity to socialize for another half an hour before the "Parkinson Power!" program begins, a motivational program that focuses on positive power. The program is hosted by Marilyn Tait, Executive Director at Parkinson Place.

At 1:00 p.m., members are treated to a guest speaker -- the speaker varies by week -- before breaking for a full hour of social time starting at 2:00 p.m.

The services provided by Parkinson Place are entirely free and the only participation requirement is signing up to become a member. There is no charge for membership.

Caregivers are also encouraged to participate in programs such as "Caregiver Matters" and "Care-4-Me". These programs are scheduled during the 2:00 p.m. hour, providing caregivers with the opportunity to engage in question and answer discussions, offering reassurance, relief, referrals and resources to aid in the provision of superior care.

Parkinson Research Foundation differs from other Parkinson organizations by focusing on patient education that enables Parkinson patients and their caregivers to live fuller and more comfortable lives. Its seminars, conferences, and educational cruises offer life-changing tools and knowledge for persons affected by the disease.

Parkinson Place, and the Foundation, are headquartered at 5969 Cattleridge Blvd., Suite 100, Sarasota 34232, telephone 941-870-4438. Email info@parkinsonresearchfoundation.org. Web: www.parkinsonresearchfoundation.org.
