The Bradenton Times Polls

Poll Question: Do you think that when a drunk driver injures or kills a passenger who is also inebriated and willingly got into the car knowing the driver's state, it should be viewed the same as if they killed or injured a sober motorist or pedestrian who was not in their vehicle, in terms of their sentencing?

Yes, either way their choice and action caused death or injury  No, they should still be punished but some of the responsibility lies with the person who chose to get in the car More polls »

The Sea Of Strengths Academy will be collecting gently-used household items from 1/22/2013 – 1/25/2013. A trailer will be parked at the school premises located at 7313 International Place, Suite 90 Sarasota FL 34240. Donors are asked to drop off items between the hours of 3:00pm and 6:00pm Tuesday-Friday. The school is located in the Lakewood Ranch Corporate Park.

The Sea Of Strengths Academy is a school for students with dyslexia, ADHD, speech-language disorders and other language-based learning disabilities. The school is unique in it's curriculum and classroom design, providing multi-sensory instruction and individual attention to its students. Students work in small groups, and must demonstrate mastery in core skills before moving on to the next level. Susan Stevens, one of the school's founders, describes the school as “a safe place where students feel valued and are pushed to reach their full potential”.

The school is raising funds to help provide additional training opportunities for teachers. John Hettler, the school's Principal stated that:

“Teacher training is an essential part of the success of our program. While it is expensive to bring in experienced trainers from out of state, it can make a big impact on a student's academic success. Every student deserves to have a well-trained teacher with the tools he/she needs to be successful.”

This focus on training is central to the school's mission and core values.

Donated items will be taken to auction, and the money raised will be put towards training efforts. For more information about the fund-raiser, or the Sea Of Strengths Academy in general, you are encouraged to contact John Hettler at or 941-538-6822 x 102.
