Former Lead Trumpet to Hold Master Class For HS & College Students

December 11, 2012) Sergeant Major (R) Bob Smither, a former Lead Trumpet of the West Point Band at The United States Military Academy, will conduct a Master Class Trumpet Clinic for high school and college students this Saturday, December 15, 2012, in the band room at Manatee High School from noon to 3:30 p.m. The class is sponsored by Keyboards & More and cost $10 per student to participate. Additional 30-minute individual lessons are available after the class for $20 per lesson.

A native of Missouri, Sgt. Maj. Smither began studying and performing trumpet at the age of eleven. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from the College of the Ozarks and a Master of Music, Trumpet, from the University of Oklahoma. He then became a member of the United States Military Academy Band at West Point, NY, and spent the next 23 1/2 years performing in one of the nation's premier military bands before retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major. He is currently an Adjunct Brass Music Professor at College of the Ozarks in Missouri.
