Richard Rothbard, a New York-based artist and gallery owner, and his wife, Joanna Rothbard, took over management of the event three years ago. The couple manages fine crafts events in the northeast, including The Berkshires Arts Festival, through their firm, American Art Marketing. They also own and operate An American Craftsman Galleries in New York City, Savannah, Georgia, and Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
Rothbard says that festival coordinators hand-select the nation’s top craft artists, emphasizing technical skill, quality of workmanship, and originality of design. According to Rothbard, the Sarasota-Manatee region is home to a wealth of first-rate artists and artisans.
“We’re very impressed with the depth and scope of the area arts community,” says Rothbard. “More regional artists are participating—and we invite others to contact us about booth opportunities. Space is limited but if they get to us soon, we'll do our best to make room." Interested artists should visit www.sarasotacraftshow.com to apply. Application deadline for booth space is October 10, 2012.
Rothbard says this year's show will include a strong showing of work by the nation's most sought-after jewelry artists.
"We'll be exhibiting the best collection of one-of-a-kind jewelry ever presented in Florida," says Rothbard, adding that patrons will find "original works ranging from $50 to more than $1,000. They can interact with artists and purchase distinctive gifts, knowing the money goes directly to support independent artists. What can be better than that?”
