WHAT…The annual Memorial Day Concert at Phillippi Estate Park by the Sarasota Concert Band, youth soloist contest winner, heartfelt tenor and special speaker. This concert is made possible through the generosity of our co-sponsors Sarasota County Parks & Recreation and the Herald-Tribune.

WHEN… Monday, May 28th

WHY… The theme is Honoring Heroes – with music and song.

“We’re featuring the two special soloists,” says William Barbanera, Artistic Director. “We have the winner of our new Youth Soloist Contest who will be performing with the group. George Courtenay-Miller is amazing on sax. And Dave Downer, a local tenor, will have the audience in the palm of his hand.”

WHERE… On the grounds of Phillippi Estate Park at 5500 Tamiami Trail in Sarasota.

WHEN… The concert starts at 5 pm.

HOW MUCH… The cost is $5 per person with 12 and under free. Tickets are available at the gate and online at www.SarasotaConcertBand.org.

MUSIC… Selections such as the Folk song “Shenandoah”, John Williams’ “Liberty Fanfare”, and Irving Berlin’s “Songs of America” mark just a few of the patriotic music selections…ending with a fun audience “sing-a-long” and Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever”.

Organization Info: Sarasota Concert Band, a symphonic wind ensemble, is successor to the Czecho-Slovakian National Band brought to Sarasota, Florida by John Ringling in 1925.
