| First Leg of Three to be held at Ozello, Fl for a Limited Field |
The race has become so popular with participants statewide, that Kiwanis has announced they will limit the “2011 Race” to the first 150 applications.
Barry Schwartz, race director, said “The limitation is for the safety of the participants.” He urged that applicants log on to the Ozello Adventure Race website now for an easy and convenient method to register: ozelloadventurerace.com. Or he can be reached at 352 795-4780.
The triathlon race consists of one and a half mile of kayaking, seven miles of bicycling and two miles of running.
The kayaking portion of the race has become popular because there are a large number of kayakers living in central Florida. Ideally it promotes participation from the age groups that Ozello Adventure Race accepts-- participants from 14 years and older.
The entry fees are $30 for an individuals and $20 for a high school student. Teams of two or three are charged $25 per person and $20 for students. Registration is $40 per person on race day. (If available).
All funds derived from the event will be used for Kiwanis Scholarships and youth activities.
Each racer must have a kayak, paddle, pfd, running shoes, bicycle, water bottle and snacks. A limited number of kayaks, paddle and pfd will be available to rent for $20 but must be received in advance at the time of registration.
Each participant will receive lunch, the satisfaction of helping a local students receive scholarships, and an all new 2011 souvenir t-shirt featuring Ozello Adventure Race’s mascot “Ozzie.”
Awards will be presented for best overall team and individuals in age/gender categories.
Ozello is the perfect venue to hold the Adventure Race as it is a scenic island located in the Gulf. Traffic is limited and the facilities are wonderful. To get there drive 10 miles on Ozello Trail (County Road 494) west of US Highway 19 between Crystal River and Homosassa.
