Ocala, Florida - Dr. John Norman, affectionately known as "Doc" by many, passed away after an extended illness on March 23, 2024. John was born January 25, 1946 in Texas, but lived most of his life here in Florida (Ocala, Palma Sola & Anna Maria Island). After graduation from Ocala High School in 1964, John enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. An Aviator (Helicopter), he flew 888 combat missions during the Vietnam War, the majority of those being Medivac Sorties.

After Military Service John returned home to Florida, and enrolled at Florida State University. Graduating with the degree Bachelor of Science. He then attended Emory University Medical School in Atlanta, where he received his degree as Doctor of Dental Surgery. His love of the water and sailing brought him to Anna Maria, where he practiced Dentistry for over 40 years. Generous to a fault, many folks on the Island had their Dental procedures performed entirely free of charge, with absolutely no pretense or expectation on Doc's part. He would often tell Patients to "Just bring me some Stone Crabs or something from your Garden".

Truly a Renaissance man, John was an avid reader, sailor, woodworker, Dog lover and fast friend to those lives fortunate to have crossed paths with his. He is survived by older Sister Sandra (Hernando, Fl), and a younger one Gail (Ocala, Fl). John's Dog, Spanky, also lives on. Younger Brother, Billy, precedes them in death. John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Fittingly, his final resting place will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fl. A formal Service, with Military Honors will precede his interment (Friday, May 17, 11:00 a.m.).

RIP Dr. John Furgason Norman
